I DIDN'T GET WHAT I WANTED FOR CHRISTMAS

This lovely little song encourages children to see what's important in life. To appreciate what we are given to learn and grow through. The ballad emphasises the importance seeing beyond the drama, to the heart of Christmas... 'love' - The gift that keeps on giving! I DIDN’T GET WHAT I WANTED FOR CHRISTMAS ©2020 Lisa Brockwell I didn’t get what I wanted for Christmas I looked all around the Christmas tree There were presents everywhere but no skateboard anywhere Oh I didn’t get what I wanted for Christmas Mum said "Now darling just be grateful Santa’s left presents just for you." "But Mum, I whispered in his ear and I guess he didn’t hear I suppose what I got will have to do." And when I opened up my presents A great big shock did I find Artists stuff was there, like paints and pencils everywhere Guess O’l Santa knew my mind "You don’t always get what you want" Says my Dad "Life always gives you what you need." And as I love to paint and draw it help me after all To be the best artist I can be! Many, many years have passed me by now Who’da thought Mum and Dad were right What Santa gave that year was more than Christmas cheer I’m a successful artist, living a great life! So if you don’t get what you want for Christmas Be grateful for all that comes your way There’s always so much more even if the present’s really small It’s about knowing that we’re loved and we’re okay It’s about knowing that we’re loved and we’re all okay!

Time Out

Time Out

'Time Out!' is an anger management song. 'Time Out' offers a process for children to release anger and negative emotions in a positive, loving and productive way. The song encourages children to take responsibility for their thoughts, feelings, words and actions. ‘Time Out’ offers anger management skills that are easy to apply and can be utilized anywhere, anytime. No matter how old we are we can always apply these life skills, creating peace and harmony where chaos once resided. Parents and teachers may offer variations to the words 'when I shake my yuckies away.' These may include ‘breathing or blowing them away’, ‘exercising them away’, ‘imagine standing under a shower and washing them away’, ‘stomping them away’ or even pretending to brush the negativity from the head down to the toe and straight into a pretend garbage bin next to the feet. Imagination is the greatest tool at hand and if the child is unable to 'shake' then they always have it within them to imagine shaking their yuckies away... I encourage you to sit down and discuss with the child whatever positive, safe way they feel will work for them, as they are the ones singing the song and releasing their negative energy. ‘Practice always embeds the energy and thus becomes the habit.’ I encourage you to sing the song with your children and practise the actions together again and again. Children love and respond well to positive reinforcement whilst learning any given process so let’s make it fun and rewarding when learning the song and actions. TIME OUT! ©2012 Lisa Brockwell I’ll take time out; I’ll take time out When I feeling angry, when I feeling angry And I’ll take time out; I’ll take time out When I can’t get my way, when I can’t get my way Chorus: Time out, means letting go Time out, means walking away Time out means taking a breath Then I’ll shake my yucky’s away! Then I’ll shake my yucky’s away! Time out just to be still Time out to feel my peace Time out to feel okay Then I’ll go back and play I’ll take time out; I’ll take time out When I’m really annoyed, when I’m really annoyed And I’ll take time out; I’ll take time out When I want to say hurtful words, when I want to say hurtful words I’ll take time out; I’ll take time out When I want to do the wrong thing, when I want to do the wrong thing And I’ll take time out; I’ll take time out To give myself a hug. To give myself a hug!

A HUG

A HUG

We all need a hug every now and then! When those we love aren't around, we can always give ourselves the loving hug we wish they'd give us. As the song says "A hug can change my day for me, it's telling myself "I love me!" This presentation offers various scenarios children find themselves in, showing them how they can make a positive and loving difference in such a simple, caring way. A hug is always available at any moment of the day and no matter our age or where we are, we can give ourselves this warm loving hug. We can give ourselves a high hug (shoulder to shoulder) a medium hug (dropping our arms halfway down from the shoulder) and a low hug (folding arms) I do these three actions with the kids before we sing this song. I also ask the kids what letter crossing our arms offers (x) and then give the example of writing a birthday card and after signing it, offering the (X) as a kiss to the person and then I say "Giving ourselves a hug is like giving ourselves or our bodies a kiss as we making this great big X " This song promotes self care, encouraging preschoolers to give themselves a hug when they feel sad, mad, proud, scared or hurt and reminds them that offering themselves a hug is a loving thing to do. "A hug can change my day for me, it's telling myself, I love me!" A HUG ©2012 Lisa Brockwell I give a hug to myself when I’m feeling sad! I give a hug to myself when I’m feeling mad! A hug can change my day for me It’s telling myself, I love me! CHORUS: Hmm, hmm, mm, mm, mm, mm, mm Hmm, hmm, I feel my nice warm hug! Hmm, hmm, mm, mm, mm, mm, mm Hmm, hmm, I feel my very own loving hug! I give a hug to myself when I’ve done my best! I give a hug to myself when I’ve cleaned my mess! A hug can change my day for me It’s telling myself I love me! And if I’m scared or hurt don’t know what to do My nice warm hug will comfort me too! Then I’ll tell someone what’s upsetting me ‘cause sharing together really helps me!
MY FEEL GOOD SONG

MY FEEL GOOD SONG

(PRESCHOOL/PRIMARY) 'Good feeling thoughts can't help but feel good!' This is a really great teaching and nurturing song for children when feeling sad or scared. It provides a simple process they can use to change from their discomfort to a more comfortable and positive way of being. The song reminds children of their own personal power, that they have it within them... “I can change my thoughts, I can lose my fears and I can change my mood!” The wonderful ‘feel good’ memories given within the song, may be used to bounce off and bring about more ‘feel good’ memories they themselves have experienced to which they can draw upon when in need. MY 'FEEL GOOD' SONG ©2021 Lisa Brockwell When I’m feeling sad, or when I’m feeling scared And I don’t know what to do I can change my thoughts, I can lose my fears And I can change my mood I imagine a bubble that’s filled with light And it shines for me, ever so bright I place all my feelings into the light Then blow them away with all my might I give myself a hug and say ‘It’s all okay!’ I can take my thoughts to someplace Where I’d rather be today Perhaps it is a cubby, perhaps a pretty scene A tree house or a really nice room I can change this place as with my thoughts I create I relax there now, with my memories too… I remember a time… I remember a time… When I laughed so much that I wanted to cry And I lay on my back and watched clouds float by I climbed the top of a great big hill I was out of breath but I made it still! Yes, these all feel so good, to me! Yes, these all feel so good, to me! I remember a time… I remember a time… Loved a book so much didn’t want it to end When I acted silly or played pretend And my old teddy bear had that special feel Oh the love we share, is still very real Yes, these all feel so good, to me! Yes, these all feel so good, to me! I remember a time… I remember a time… Sang my favourite song as loud as I could Smelt the earth after rain or the scent of new wood Chasing butterflies and picking lovely flowers Relaxing in a chair, then dream away the hours Yes, these all feel so good, to me! Yes, these all feel so good, to me! I remember a time… I remember a time… Watching birds flying by, pointing the way And having that swim on a hot summer’s day Seeing my favourite shows, again and again Telling really funny jokes with my very best friends Yes these all feel so good, to me! Yes these all feel so good, to me! I give myself a hug and say ‘It’s all okay!’ I allowed my thoughts to comfort me Bringing peace and joy today Yes, when I’m feeling sad Or when I’m feeling scared And I don’t know what to do I can change my thoughts I can lose my fears And I can change my mood I can change my thoughts I can lose my fears And I can change my mood!
